Rolex Fastnet Race: Two Great Names, One Challenge

Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in association with the Royal Western Yacht Club, Plymouth, and the Royal Yacht Squadron
A Rolex Chronometer may be awarded to the Fastnet Challenge Cup winner and the Fastnet Rock Trophy winner. In the event of one boat winning both trophies only one chronometer will be presented.

A Rolex Fastnet certificate is sent to every crew member who completes the course.
*These trophies are subject to specific extra conditions which are set out in a Fastnet Trophy Application Form which every Fastnet entry shall sign and lodge with the RORC before the race.
SSS MINIMUM: 30 or STIX MINIMUM: 32 combined with an AVS MINIMUM of 130-0.002 x m (where m is minimum sailing weight in Kg)
SPECIAL REGULATIONS: Category 2 with RORC Prescriptions
An ISAF Offshore Special Regulations Checklist shall be completed to Category 2 and submitted to the RORC no later than Friday 22nd July
The Checklist shall include the 15 digit HEX ID of the yachts EPIRBS(S) (which must be registered with the appropriate authority) and the serial numbers of the liferaft(s). The following documents shall be attached:
1. A Hull Construction Certificate - see Offshore Special Regulation 3.03
2. Copies of the yachts liferaft servicing/inspection certificate(s) of proof that the liferaft(s) predates its first service.

COURSE: Cowes - Fastnet Rock - Plymouth
FINISH: At Plymouth Breakwater
DISTANCE: Approximately 608 miles
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION: The skipper and at least half the crew must have completed in the yacht in which they will race the Rolex Fastnet Race, in the 12 months preceding the start:
1. 300 miles of RORC offshore racing, or
If the yacht is normally kept in a place without reasonable access to RORC racing:
2. one RORC offshore race plus offshore racing* or a non-stop passage making a total of at least 300 miles, or
3. other qualifications similar to (2) above to be proposed to and agreed by RORC by Friday 22nd July 2005
* To qualify as "Offshore Racing" a race must be of at least 75 miles duration and include at least one night at sea.
Notes: 1. When plans to qualify as above cannot be completed (e.g. a race becalmed) or in exceptional circumstances, alternative proposals must be made to RORC as soon as possible.
2. A service yacht may qualify as above or submit written authority from her service establishment.
3. The acceptance by RORC of any experience qualification does not warrant suitability for the Rolex Fastnet Race.
TRAINING: It is the Skipper's responsibility to ensure that the following criteria are met and that a Certificate or Letter of Attendance from an establishment recognised by the RORC should be provided on completion of the following:
1. First Aid Course at least two of the crew, on each yacht, should have received training and
2. Liferafts at least 50% of the crew should have received Training or Instruction in the use of Liferafts. In the case of Two Handed entries both crew members must complete first aid and liferaft training.
The above training must have taken place after January 1999.
COPIES OF THESE CERTIFICATES/LETTERS OF ATTENDANCE MUST BE LODGED AS A COMPLETE SET WITH THE RORC NO LATER THAN FRIDAY 22nd JULY.
Note: ISAF Offshore Special Regulations regarding training will change in 2006. Training to Section 6 (Appendix G) will be required for all Category 2 races. If your crew are undertaking training in 2005 it would be wise to undertake training that covers Section 6 so that they are prepared for 2006. In the UK the RYA Offshore Racing Crew Course is appropriate.
BRIEFING: A briefing will be held in Cowes at 1800 on Saturday 6th August at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club. Two representatives from each boat will be invited. This briefing is not mandatory.

PRIZEGIVING: The Rolex Fastnet prizegiving will be held in Plymouth on Friday 12th August 2005. Details will be published in the Sailing Instructions. RORC medallions will be presented on Tuesday 20th September, 1930 at the Clubhouse, 20 St James's Place, London, SW1. All crews welcome.
INTERNATIONAL JURY: Decisions of the International Jury will be final as provided in RRS 70.4
SPONSORS FLAGS AND BOW STICKERS: Race sponsor's flags will be provided, and if so shall be flown from the backstay at all times during the race. Class and sponsor's flags shall be flown at a level above that of the upper lifelines. Bow stickers will be provided and every effort shall be made to retain them on the bows. Race sponsor's battle flags will be provided, and shall be flown from the forestay while berthed in Queen Anne's Battery Marina. A competitor may not protest this requirement.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
CREW LIST WITH NEXT OF KIN DETAILS: It is the skippers responsibility to collate a crew list complete with names and addresses and next of kin details. A crew list complete with details of the whole crew shall be submitted to the RORC by FRIDAY 22nd JULY 2005.

I agree that the sole and inescapable responsibility for the nautical qualities of any yacht participating in the Rolex Fastnet Race 2005, her rigging, the safety equipment on board and the competence, behaviour and dress of her crew is that of the Owner/Charterer of the yacht.
I also agree to take any and all responsibility for all damages whatsoever caused to third persons or their belongings, to myself or to my belongings, ashore and at sea as a consequence of my participation in the regatta, and hereby relieve from any responsibility, and agree to indemnify on a full indemnity basis and hold harmless, the Royal Ocean Racing Club, its servants, agents and sponsors (in particular but not only ROLEX SA) and their representatives in respect of any claim arising therefrom.
I am acquainted with ISAF RRS Part 1 Fundamental Rule 4: "A boat is solely responsible for deciding whether or not to start or to continue racing".
In any case, I agree that the ROYAL OCEAN RACING CLUB, its servants, agents and sponsors (in particular but not only ROLEX SA) and their representatives have no responsibility for loss of life or injury to members or others, or for the loss of, or damage to any vessel or property.
MEDIA RELEASES: Competitors and crew members on the competing yachts grant, at no cost, the ROYAL OCEAN RACING CLUB and ROLEX SA the absolute right and permission to use their name, voice, image, likeness, biographical material as well as representations of the boats in any media (being television, print and internet media), including video footage, for the sole purposes of advertising, promoting, reporting and disseminating information regarding the ROLEX FASTNET RACE ("the race") and the competitors and crew members' participation to the regatta.
Competitors and crew members on the competing yachts also grant, at no cost, ROLEX SA the absolute right and permission to use their name, image, likeness, biographical material as well as representations of the boats in the "Perpetual Spirit Yachting by ROLEX" magazine, edited by ROLEX SA.
Competitors and crew members' name, voice, image, likeness and biographical material shall not be used by ROLEX SA in a way which constitutes an endorsement of ROLEX SA's products by said Competitors and crew members, unless the relevant competitor or crew member is engaged by ROLEX SA to endorse its products or gives his/her prior written consent to such use.
